What does being a peacemaker mean to you?
Being a peacemaker means being a silver lining on the darkest clouds. 10% of life is what happens to you and 90% is how you respond. I believe that is a big part of the ethos that started this non-profit. We couldn’t change what happened to our beloved Jack, but we could bring a voice to the issue. We could make sure his legacy lives on through the good we do for others.
What impact do you hope the Jack Shockley Warriors for Peace will have in the community?
My hope is to continue to change one life at a time. Being someone who didn’t come from a wealthy family I watched my mom and dad make countless sacrifices to send me to a private catholic high school. They understood how important my education would be to give me the life they didn’t have. Helping families give their children the same opportunity that I was given really hits home and I look forward to seeing all the wonderful things that our scholarship alumni do.
